The Atrium Art Gallery of Chester will be hosting our fall opening reception on Tuesday, October 7th 6pm-7pm @ Chester Borough Town Hall Art Gallery, 50 North Road, Chester, NJ. The opening reception will include live music by the gifted Chester Baroque Orchestra and free refreshments provided by Point 5 Jersey beverage company. Join us for a night of culture and fellowship to admire the tapestries of Chester’s talented Christine Benson Vos.

About the artist…
I was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and moved to Hoboken in the early 1980s to work as a textile designer in New York City. My creative journey began with simple frame looms for weavings, which soon grew into larger, more complex tapestries – Gobelin high looms. With the support of a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, I deepened my exploration of textiles and later pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
After returning to New Jersey, I continued to weave and paint, working for several years on tapestries at the Ruth Scheuer Studio and at a private studio at the National Arts Club. Over time, painting became an important parallel practice. I studied figurative painting for five years at the Art Students League of New York, where I worked with Ted Jacobs and Peter Cox. These experiences—rooted in both craft and fine art—continue to shape the textures and images that appear in my work today.

Let the holiday festivities begin! It’s almost time for Chester’s Annual Tree Lighting at Municipal Field Gazebo! Join Chester Recreation & the Municipality of the Borough of Chester on the first Sunday of December for live music by the West Morris Mendham High School Choir & Band, free refreshments donated by local businesses, special appearances by Chester Volunteer Fire Company, Chester, NJ, Chester Police Department, Chester First Aid Squad, & the one and only Santa Claus!!! All are welcome!
