The Senior Resource Center in Chester, NJ is located in the Church of the Messiah, 50 Route 24, Chester, NJ 07930.
Our mission is “Bringing seniors, their families and caregivers in our communities together for physical activity, mental stimulation, camaraderie, and fun, while providing timely and important information related to issues surrounding aging.” The objective of the Senior Resource Center is to provide physical and social activities for seniors in our community. We offer many different physical fitness programs that occur on a weekly basis, all led by certified instructors specializing in senior fitness. We ask for a minimal suggested donation for these classes – we never turn anyone away. Our Walking Club meets every Friday at a different location, typically covering distances between two to three miles. We also have the SRC String Band which meets twice a month and weekly Piano classes on Mondays. SRC is proud to offer a Quilting Workshop twice a month with Master Quilter Dr. Andy Wiginton. Monthly, we host Lunch & Learn programs at the Chester Library featuring a diverse range of speakers, including many local health professionals. Similar educational programs with the same speakers are also available at the Washington Township Public Library, Mountaintop Church, and Trinity House in Hackettstown. Due to the popularity of these programs, there is often a waiting list for registration. We successfully conducted our first annual Healthy Aging and Wellness Fair, which featured local healthcare professionals and provided free screenings for the senior community. Starting in February 2025, we will introduce monthly Wellness Days to help seniors stay healthy and informed about health issues. The Senior Resource Center believes that our senior population needs a full schedule of activities to keep their minds and bodies healthy and youthful. Every December the Senior Resource Center holds its annual Festival of Trees at the Highlands Ridge Barn in Chester. The Barn becomes a Winter Wonderland for all ages to enjoy. Many of the SRC members volunteer to decorate trees, set up The Barn, transport Christmas trees, make cookies, and greet the attendees among doing many other things that make this event so wonderful. Many thanks to the Mayors of Chester Borough and Chester Township, the 2024 Festival of Trees was a huge success. Hundreds of people came to see this amazing event and we look forward to making it even more spectacular in years to come.
